Zimbabwe Launches MDGs Virtual Learning Centre

The Government of Zimbabwe with the support of the United Nations launched a state of the art Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Virtual Learning Center on 21 November 2012 in Harare. The online platform available at www.mdgs.org.zw was developed by Development Reality Institute with support from UNDP in an effort to enhance public awareness and discourse on MDGs as well as to inspire the populace to participate in the attainment of the goals by 2015.Click here for more photos

The Virtual Learning Center provides an innovative way to learn about the MDGs, offering online courses free of charge to various stakeholders, including development practitioners, students and the general public. In addition, the Virtual Learning Center also provides space for discussion and engagement around the post-2015 development agenda.

 In his welcoming remarks, acting UNDP Country Director, Mr. Martim Maya, said the Virtual Learning Centre will make information on the MDGs accessible to everybody, allowing users to enhance their knowledge and keep up to date with new developments as all stakeholders work together towards 2015 and beyond.

Officially launching the online platform, Mr. Phiri, acting Director of the Research Department at the Ministry of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion, reiterated the Government’s commitment to achieve the MDGs and their attainment by 2015.

In the long-run, the overall objective of the project is, in partnership with the education sector, to incorporate the Virtual Learning Center into formal development study programmes in Zimbabwe.The interactive launch provided an opportunity for some 200 participants, representing development partners and students, to navigate through the features of the online platform and its social media component using laptops, ipads and mobile phones.
