Issue 17, April 2019 - Brick by Brick Towards Gender Parity by 2030

The 17th edition of the refreshed UN in Zimbabwe newsletter focuses on steps towards achieving SDG5 and gender parity by 2030. Issues covered include education, water and sanitation, and food security. Other issues include women and the economy, peace and democracy, HIV & AIDS, and protection and ending violence.

The 16th edition of the UN in ZImbabwe newsletter titled 'Partnerships for making SDGs a Reality for All' features the UN Day commemorations in Zimbabwe, Youth development through skills building and ending HIV/AIDS by 2030. It also looks at issues of human rights and of building resilience.

Issue 15, Focus on Drought and Humanitarian Response - April 2015

The 15th edition of the UN in ZImbabwe newsletter focuses on the toll the drought has had on communities, and the response of humanitarian and development partners to the drought. It also looks at the coordination of the response and building resilience against future shocks.

The ninth edition of the United Nations in Zimbabwe newsletter is dedicated to UN engagement in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment initiatives in Zimbabwe. This newsletter also highlights issues related to health, skills, and human trafficking. Finally, this newsletter covers updates on the development of the new Zimbabwe United Nations Development Assistance Framework (ZUNDAF) for 2016-2020, the UN’s partnership with the Harare International Festival of Arts, and the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

This issue covers the 68th anniversary celebrations of the United Nations under the theme, "For Safer Motherhood in Zimbabwe." It also highlights UN supported programme results, curbing violence against women, teenage pregnancy and human rights issues. Sustainable food systems, World AIDS Day celebrations, migration and Wednesday@UNIC updates are featured in the remaining articles.

The UN in Zimbabwe Newsletter seventh issue highlights the UN World Tourism General Assembly. The newsletter also covers efforts on food and nutrition security as well as MDGs progress in Zimbabwe. The remaining articles highlight health, youth employment, rural development, gender, and migration issues.

Issue 06, Jan - Apr 2013

This issue highlights the “Countdown: 1000 Days to Achieve the Millennium Development Goals – MDGs” advocacy campaign, with focus on MDG 5 – Improving Maternal Health. It provides Zimbabwean perspectives on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. The issue further reports on issues of Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV & AIDS, Malaria, and Gender Based Violence. In addition, the newsletter provides updates on the Decent Work Programme and highlights on the 2013 Zimbabwe Humanitarian Gaps Appeal.

Issue 05, Oct - Dec 2012

This fifth issue covers 2012 UN Day celebrations with a focus on “Green Economy for Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction”. This issue also highlights the 2012 ZUNDAF  Annual Review; UN support to the development of a National Contingency Plan for 2013, as well as support to strengthen agricultural cooperatives for the improvement of food security. The last set of articles focus on thematic issues of women empowerment, HIV & AIDS, as well as updates from the “Wednesday @ UNIC” public discussion forum.

Issue 04, May - Sep 2012

This issue highlights the GlobalPOWER Women Network Africa High Level Meeting of African Women Parliamentarians and leaders. The first set of stories speak on Health with, focusing on HIV and Reproductive Health and Immunisation. This issue also highlights United Nations activities, which include the official visit to Zimbabwe of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the launch of “Wednesday @ UNIC”, and the ZUNDAF Mid-Year Review.

Issue 03, Feb - Apr 2012

International Women’s Day was celebrated nationally on 16 March 2012 in Binga. The first three stories of this issue therefore speak to the theme of gender equality and women empowerment with a specific focus on rural women, gender based violence, and access to quality health services. In addition, this newsletter covers issues of equity and sustainability, including human development, capacity building, and youth empowerment. Finally, the last set of topics are dedicated to the thematic areas of water and health.

The UN in ZImbabwe second edition provides a snapshot of some of the UN’s accomplishments in 2011. It also highlights a new chapter for the UN in Zimbabwe as it enters into the first year of implementing the 2012-2015 ZUNDAF.

The United Nations system in Zimbabwe, together with the Government of Zimbabwe, signed the ZUNDAF, ushering in a new programming cycle for the UN system for the next four years from 2012 to 2015.
